Boot Windows in Safe Mode - Easy Steps

For troubleshooting our PC for any reason we use safe mode to login  and make necessary changes to solve the problem and we can do this in Windows XP, Windows Vista and 7 by pressing F8 at the start-up of PC but in Windows 8 it won't appear. It is one of important system for troubleshooting so Microsoft is not going to remove it, the thing is that starting safe mode has been changed in windows 8.1/10. Using these methods you can boot Windows 8, 8.1 or 10 in safe mode.

Method 1: Using PC settings
  • Press Windows Key + C to open charms bar.
  • Click on settings then on Change PC settings.
  • In settings go to update and recovery tab.
  • Then go to recovery. You will see "Advanced startup" with restart button.
  • Click on restart. After that your PC will restart.
  • Click on Troubleshoot.
  • Click on Advanced options.
  • Choose Windows Startup Settings or Startup settings.
  • Now you can see safe mode option.
  • Choose the options using numbers 1,2,3...9,10.
  • Press 4 for booting in Safe Mode.
 
  • After this your PC will restart and boot in safe mode.


Method 2: Using Command Prompt

Open command prompt (cmd). Type bcdedit /set {default} safeboot then hit enter button. This will boot your windows with minimal programs and requirements for booting windows in safe mode at next startup.

Method 3: Using system configuration (msconfig)
Press Windows + R key to open run. Type msconfig and hit enter key. This will open system configuration windows.


Tick on safe mode and click OK button then restart your PC. You PC will automatically boot in safe mode. Make necessary changes and again open system configuration and remove the tick from safe mode and restart your PC to boot normally.

Note: You PC will keep booting in safe mode until you remove tick mark.
