Having Boyfriend In Islam

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Nowadays, it's common to see youths having boyfriend and girlfriend and sitting in parks, colleges, gardens and other public places. Not only non-Muslims but even Muslims are following same considering it to be halal. Today's generation knows that alcohol is haram in Islam but only few of them know and consider pre-marital relation as haram it might be because very few parents are concerned about knowledge of Islam for their children.

When someone says, we need to change according to generation and society a thought crosses my mind that at the of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H), it was common to bury live female child but he prohibited and stooped it. What if had said same as people say today? Where the humanity had been if had continued doing sane as society and culture of society?

“And Allah is most knowing about your faith. You [believers] are of one another. So marry them with the permission of their people [Guardian] and give them their due compensation [Maher] according to what is acceptable. [They should be] chaste, neither [of] those who commit unlawful intercourse randomly nor those who take [secret] lovers.”
[Surah An-Nisa’ (The Women) (4:25)]

This verse clearly says not to have boyfriend (secret lover) and also not to commit unlawful intercourse (i.e. intercourse with anyone other than husband is unlawful (haram)) and believer should take permission of guardian and give Maher tobride and marry.

It not permissible for a man and women to sit together but with their wife or husband or Mahram.
[Hadith –Ahmad and Al-Tirmidhi 3118, Narrated by Umar ibn al-Khattab]

This hadith also forbids the dating with boyfriend or girlfriend. It also forbids the meeting of male and female in private.

Allah knows best.
