Dating is common nowadays not only among non-Muslims but even Muslims. This is because of lack of knowledge of religion and some Muslims have it's knowledge they do hoping that they will repent one days and make it halal by Nikah with whom they are dating.
In current scenario it is common hugging, kissing, touching etc. while dating. There are plenty of cases everything starts with meeting then dating and unlawful relations for several years then lots of reason will arise due to which they can't marry. It drains soul of person and degrade it. Islam forbids all unlawful relation before marriage/nikah.
Allah ordered believing men and women to guard their chastity and to lower their gaze in several places in Quran.
“Say to the believing men to lower their gazes and guard their chastity… And say to the believing women to lower their gazes and guard their chastity and not to display their charms in public.”
[An-Nur 24: 30-31]
Similarly, in Quran Verses 5:5, 23:5-7, 24:30-31, 70:29-31
When Allah orders to lower you gaze when you see person of opposite gender who are non-mahram to you, how you can date someone? Can you date without looking to opposite gender? Can you touch, hug or kiss? No you can't so these verses draw border line and forbids touching, hugging, kissing and dating of opposite gender. A believer must guard his/her chastity for husband/wife and without Nikah no man and women can be called husband and wife.

Narrated by Umar ibn al-Khattab“The Prophet said, "Whenever a man is alone with a woman the Devil makes a third.”
[Hadith – Ahmad and Al-Tirmidhi 3118]
This hadith closes all the doors of mixing of male and female. It is not permissible for a male and a female to sit together alone whether it may be in school, college, office, park or anywhere else except with those male who are their mahram and husband. There must be presence of a mahram if a girl wants to talk with a non-mahram male. This hadith forbid dating and meeting of opposite gender.
